Allow me to introduce myself. I am Lilly Avila, 8th grader. I have been in orchestra since the 5th grade. I’ve done multiple auditions and concerts through my years and have enjoyed every day of it.

My dad bought me my violin when I was in fourth grade from one of his friends. At first, I had absolutely no idea why he got me it. Then he told me that he wanted me to play an instrument and my mom agreed.

I started to try to play my violin but got frustrated very quickly. I couldn’t do anything! I had no idea how to play the stupid thing and the only sound that I did make was awful. I put it down and walked away.

In 5th grade my parents put me in orchestra against my will which I wasn’t very happy about. Little did I know, I would love it. Over that school year I learned so much and I fell in love with orchestra.

In 6th grade it was the first time I was able to audition for UIL Region Orchestra and I was extremely nervous. I auditioned and thought I didn’t sound too bad for a person who had only been playing for a year. I waited and waited and waited for the results to be posted, anxiety level rising each minute.

The results came out. I was in! I was about to be able to play among the best 11, 12, 13, and 14 yearolds in the Region! I was very proud of myself and couldn’t wait to tryout again next year.

In 7th grade, I had more experience and a brand new teacher to learn brand new things.

It was time to audition again. I was just as nervous as the year before but at least I knew what was going to happen. I was shaking from head to toe and couldn’t stop. I was hungry, tired, nervous, and freezing cold. Only 2 more hours to go!

Finally, it was the end of the auditions. The results came out after what felt like forever, and I made it again! This time, to my surprise, I ranked an even higher chair. I was so happy that I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day.

Now I’m in 8th grade and I’m about to audition again in less than 2 months. The music looks easy but I don’t want my over confidence to stump me. I love orchestra and I plan to do it throughout high school. I’m actually glad my parents forced me to do it.
