Hi, my name is Zoe Gallegos, and I am an eighth grader at Dobie. My first two weeks back at Dobie have been absolutely crazy. There was a ton of kids roaming in the hallways, and the new kids along with the seventh graders knew nothing. Some kids who were so confused even started to cry because they were so lost.
In my classes I only recognized a couple of people, and the rest were faces I had never seen before. There were close to 40 people in my homeroom class on the first day. Not everyone in my classes had seats or desks to themselves.
For the most part I love my new teachers. My science, language arts, spanish, math, and journalism teachers are my favorite teachers. They all have such a fun energy and a good spirit. The only teacher I dislike is my social studies teacher because she has a very monotone voice that makes me want to sleep.
When we had our first assembly there were so many new rules that had not been in place last year. Some of the rules we were blindsided with and didn’t see coming. The rule about lockers and backpacks I still can’t wrap my head around because it’s so hard to adjust to something new when you’ve been doing it a different way your entire life!
In athletics class I had no idea what I was getting myself into. With athletics comes with great responsibility. You have to be dressed out on time, and if you are not ready? Well, have fun pushing towels! The coaches do not joke around because they want to see what you can do.
I really look forward to spending more time with my friends. I can’t wait until the school dances because they were so much fun last year. I know already from the few weeks that I’ve been back that I’ll love it!
