Hello readers, I am Kaitlyn Baker, a 7th grader. Today I will be telling you about my favorite sport, Dobie Jr. High Cross Country. My day starts bright and early at 5:30 a.m. I get up and get dressed in my Dobie athletics uniform.
I get to Dobie at roughly 6:15 a.m. I go to my locker and set my bag and things down in my locker, then I head out to the breezeway where Coach Head, cross country coach, calls out attendance.
We are all there and we start our 10 minute warm up which is about a mile for me. After that the sun has barely risen and we are all dying on the inside and we all walk to the bleachers and grab a quick sip of water.
After, we all do a bunch of random stretches to loosen up our tense legs and arms. My stretches consist of a couple of lunges, a meditation rotation to loosen up my hips and a couple of team stretches.
We now start the real workout. I know what you’re thinking. What?! That wasn’t the real workout? No it was not. On Mondays we do ab work. On Tuesday we do sprints. On Wednesday we do a 30 minute jog. On Thursday we do one thousand meter runs over and over again by the second thousand meters we are all screaming “no more no more!” and on Friday we do jog stride sprints.
Jog stride sprints are where we jog for a little bit and then take long steps also known as strides and then we sprint for 300 meters.
Finally we are done with cross country practice at 7:50 a.m. and we all slowly walk like turtles to the locker room. I am so tired when we head to the cafeteria before school starts, but we all have a great time. We bond and our legs are stronger.
