Personal View: Mr. Mercedes book review

By Matthew Willis

The book Mr. Mercedes is a horror thriller story written by Stephen King. It is the first book in the Hodges’ trilogy. It follows the story of a retired detective, Kermit Hodges, who retired after not being able to solve the mysterious case of the crazed killer Mr. Mercedes. The Mr. Mercedes case happened when a man driving a stolen Mercedes Benz drove into a crowd of people at a job fair in the morning. He bleached all of his DNA so no evidence was left behind. The blood splattered car was soon found the next morning.

This book was a fantastic read. After I picked it up it was impossible to put down again. The mystery and suspense had an unexpected effect on me, after not picking up a book for the summer I was pleased and surprised with my first book I have read by Stephen King. The book was gritty and the way everything added up in the end satisfied and supremely surprised me. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery and Stephen King. Just to warn anyone who is squeamish, this book gets very gorey and brutal in some parts of the story.

I would recommend this book for people who are 14+ years old as this book gets very disturbing and graphic in some sections. Overall for a mystery book I would give this book a 9 and a half out of 10. For an overall book I would give this book a 9 out of ten as it had some unnecessary detail that I personally didn’t think was required in the story but was still put in. This has been my favourite Stephen King book that I have read so I highly enjoyed the book.
