The Dobie Jr. High staff is having a little fun with a new Elf on the Shelf tradition.  Ms. Mendoza, a Spanish teacher, started the tradition this year at Dobie and teachers and staff are really enjoying it, sending emails with funny clues and getting really excited about finding it.

On Thursday, Mr. Barbee emailed the following clue, a poem, to staff:

Sawing lumber far away

From my branches as they sway.

Getting around is not easy

With all those children Running “Breezy”.

Hopefully it’s not a bungle.

Cause I’m hiding in the Jungle!

Elf on the shelves are a Christmas tradition that have captured the hearts of children everywhere who welcome home one of Santa’s Scout Elves each holiday season. The magical Scout Elves help Santa manage his naughty and nice lists by reporting back to him at the North Pole nightly. or she tells Santa if the children have been good or bad for that day. His Scout Elves serve as his eyes and ears in homes around the world.

The elf hides in different places and you try to go find it the next day. If you touch the elf it will lose all of its Christmas magic that Santa gave it and that you gave it from believing.

To introduce the new tradition, Ms. Mendoza sent out a email to all staff. “After seeing the movie “Coco,” I was quickly reminded about my family traditions. I would like to start one Elf on the Shelf,” she wrote.  “This tradition is new to me and I would like to start it with you all. If you should find the elf, you will get a prize. I hope that you will find this tradition to be a fun one. Happy Hunting!”

Ms. Mendoza said she thinks the new tradition is a positive one. “The teachers like the elf idea and it brings laughter and joy to the school,” she said, adding that she started the tradition because she thought it would be fun.

On December 5th Ms. Ledwick found the elf and hid it. She sent a email that said, “The Elf on the Shelf is up to no good! When you find him, please return him to Ms. Mendoza for a prize!!!”

On December 6th, Mrs. P.J. found the Elf on the Shelf. The elf was hiding on the copying machine, with copies of papers. “I never win anything, so I was really excited to find it,” Mrs. P.J. said. “What a fun tradition!”
