TV Show Review: Stranger Things is one of my favorite shows
January 17, 2018
Stranger Things is a Netflix Original series that came out the summer of 2016. This show falls under the genres of science fiction, horror, and supernatural.
Stranger Things is set in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, during the early 1980s. The nearby Hawkins National Laboratory performs scientific research for the US Department of Energy, but secretly does experiments into the supernatural, including ones that involve human test subjects. Accidentally, they created a gate to an alternate dimension called “The Upside Down”.
The first season begins in November 1983, when Will Byers is abducted by a mysterious creature from the Upside Down. His mother, Joyce, and Hawkins’ police chief, Jim Hopper, try to find Will. At the same time, a young girl with special powers called Eleven escapes from the lab. After she is found by Will’s friends, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas, she starts helping them look for Will.
The thing I love about this show is how amazing the special effects are. Stranger Things have a huge team to make this sci-fi show look spectacularly realistic. It makes my brain actually believe that a demogorgen exists out of a game called Dungeon and Dragons.
On the other hand the thing I don’t like about it is how impossible all of it is. I mean, really? A monster that lives in the U.S Department of Energy stays in one single town to torture one single kid for 2 years? But that’s just how I think. There are also those classic horror movie cliches where they go in the one place you shouldn’t go. Also, when a slow monster is chasing you, you don’t stop running! You keep going until you make it to civilization so someone else can die in order for your survival. Zombie Apocalypse 101, people.
The other thing I enjoy about Stranger Things is the soundtrack. The music adds just the perfect amount of suspense. I personally really like 80’s music so the songs were fun to listen to and sing along to. I could tell they put effort into the playlist and it paid off.

I really like how you explained the whole show for people who haven’t watched it also I thought it was really funny how you said that some of the story isn’t believable. I love the writing and how specific it is towards the show. Great Review
