Twenty-one Dobie Jr. High students earned ribbons and medals at the first academic UIL meet of the year. The meet was held on January 27 at Mountain Valley Middle School. Students competed against eight other schools. The next meet will be at Dobie on February 10.

“We are really proud of all UIL students. These are the best of the best here at Dobie. They volunteer to participate and work hard to represent themselves and Dobie in these academic competitions. It takes a lot of personal sacrifice for these students to get to this level,” said Mrs. Preyor-Johnson, UIL Ready Writing and Modern Oratory Coach. “I am also proud of my fellow coaches because all of us spend hours each week to help these students. It’s all worth it to witness their excitement when they win medals and ribbons.”

To place and qualify for the Tournament of Champions, students must earn first through sixth places. The Tournament of Champions will be held on February 24 at Corbett Jr. High.

Jessie Vrooman, eight grader, won first place in Ready Writing. “I was very shocked,” she said.
