Editorial: School shootings and why they need to stop

Screams, shots, and cries. These are the things no one wants to hear. This is a school shooting, and they are happening left and right. Sometimes they are just threats, other times they are real. No teenager, child, adult, or any human should go through that. School shootings must end now!
School shootings are very dangerous and should be taken seriously. A lot of teenagers are joking around saying they are bringing a gun to school, or saying they are going to shoot up the school. When other kids hear that, they take matters into their own hands to try to stop it and that causes a big situation.
At Dobie Jr. High, a student threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot everyone. Parents complained and the administrators called for multiple officers to watch the area.
ABC News states that in Parkland, FL, a 19-year-old suspended student shot and killed 17 students and injured more than a dozen. In 1999 at Columbine High School, two students shot up the school and set off bombs. Twelve students and one teacher were killed. Since Columbine, there have been hundreds of school shootings.
A school shooting is a real life example of a survival situation. Students have to go into survival mode to try as hard as they can to save themselves. Shootings are very dangerous but they can also teach kids how to survive in an outside of school shooting. Kids at a school with an active shooter will learn how to hide and sometimes how to physically protect themselves.
If the school is alarmed that a shooter is nearby, you have to have a plan. If a school in your district is having a real lock down, call for officers to stay near schools. Teachers or the school should have armed weapons in case this happens. They need some kind of protection. I suggest students should stack desks along any door or window to hold them off for a period of time.
Our country needs to figure out a way to stop school shootings. Our government needs to talk about having armed weapons. The government needs to be careful about who they give armed weapons to. School shootings might not happen as often as they do. It is getting out of hand of how many shootings are happening this year. Our country needs to become more aware because the shootings MUST end!
