Imagine having a normal day at school, nothing interesting happening, when all of a sudden you hear an announcement that you’re school is having a lockdown. Most people think that a lockdown can’t happen to them, but that’s exactly what happened to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, according to ABC News.
School shootings are absolutely terrifying. Kids of any age and grade should not have to be scared to go to their school to get an education; schools are for learning not fear.
Some kids are too scared to get an education due to recent shootings. Kids shouldn’t risk their lives just to get an education. If it happened to them it could end up scaring them for their whole lives and cause post-traumatic stress disorder. Which can cause anxiety and flashbacks triggered by a traumatic event. The gun used for the shooting shouldn’t be so easy to get. An AR-15 is a gun for killing not for hunting according to CNBC.
Some people think school shootings might not be that big of a problem, but the victims of the one in Parkland, Florida say otherwise. People over the age of 18 are technically adults, so they should be able to purchase any type of gun they want legally. If someone wants to purchase a gun the producer should do a background check on their mental health, so they can’t do any harm after the purchase.
When the people sell the guns to the customer, a background check should be required to buy a gun. If the president calls a meeting into gun control it would make the nation happy ,according to the Atlantic. When gun control has been restricted to certain people the nation will be in relief. It will cause less unexpected attack on schools or churches but they won’t be able to control what they do with that AR-15, Beretta 9000, Sig Sauer M400, and 12 gauge shotguns.
Parents shouldn’t be afraid for their children’s lives when they send them to go to school. It’s time for school shootings to come to an end.
