The Track Meet For Dobie was a Success
April 20, 2018
At Dobie Jr. High School, sports are a huge deal, and the season at the moment is track and field. On March 22, 2018, there will be a track meet, here, at Steele. Students like Jacob Coppage and Brenna Cockerill have been preparing for this meet for weeks. Hopefully, their hard work has paid off.
Brenna Cockerill, an 8th grader here at Dobie, is participating in in the track and field meet in the event, pole vaulting. She says that she joined track just because she wanted to join a sport. Cockerill said that she is very excited for track because, “I get to hang out with my friends and cheer them on after my event.” Brenna also said that her favorite coach is: “(Coach) Adame because she is my coach.” When asked what her favorite part of track and field is, she replied, “I get to vault…there aren’t many places where you can pole vault.” The last thing that she said was that if she could choose any other sport besides track, she would choose wrestling.
Another 8th grader, Jacob Coppage, talked about why he joined track. Jacob says he joined track to, “Keep me in shape.” Jacob does 100 meter hurdles, 100 meter dash, and more. He is excited for the track meet because, “I get to compete with other people from other schools.” He mentioned that if he were to do another sport it would be football.
One more 8th grader, Cade Marler, said that he was doing the events 2400 and 1600 mile. Cade joined track, “Because I have a lot of stamina.”
As you can see, people join track for many different reasons and have many likes and dislikes about the sport. Brenna and Jacob have been waiting for this day for a while and are going to amazing! Good luck guys!
