Dobie’s best art featured in SCUC Fine Arts Festival
April 13-15 at Steele High School
Hundreds of student art pieces were hand picked by art teachers from several schools were displayed as part of Celebrate the Arts, a festival of performances and art exhibits by the students involved in the Fine Arts programs of the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.
More than 100 2D art (drawings, paintings and collages) and 3D art (ceramic mugs) works were chosen by Dobie Art Teachers Mrs. Santos and Mrs. Harper.
The festival was held at Byron P. Steele High School on April 13-15. Some art pieces won ribbons for their creativity and quality. Many students and teachers attended the festival not only to see but to judge the art work.
Mrs. Harper said the festival was a great opportunity to share the best, most creative art pieces with the community. “It is just fun to see the parents reaction to their children’s art work,” said Harper.
Having their art displayed was a confidence booster for many Dobie students. Terrell Shelton, 8th grader, said he was surprised to have his art work featured. “I was really shocked because I felt that my artwork was terrible,” he said.
The artwork of Dobie students made students, teachers and families proud.
Aaliyah Scafe, 8th grader, said her Notan, a Japanese word for light-dark balance, landscape. “I felt happy that my work was there because sometimes I’m not that good at art. When I found out something of mine was there I felt really excited.”
Some students had more than one art piece displayed at the festival.
Salvador Ramos, 8th grader, said he had two art pieces featured — a clay octopus mug and a sketch of an airplane. “I was excited and nervous because I didn’t know if it would live up to the hype of all of the other art. Art is something I enjoy.”
Camille Jackson, 8th grader, had three art pieces featured. “When I saw other people’s they were really amazing and it made me kinda proud to be featured among the best art,” she said. “My dad, my sister and I went to go see the art with me. They were very proud of me. They always encourage me to continue with my art.”
Celebrate the arts also featured performances from orchestras, choirs and theatre from across the district.
