On April 4, 177 Dobie 7th grade students received an invitation to apply to join National Junior Honor Society, known as NJHS.

To get the invitation to apply, students needed to have a 90 percent average in core classes. The application required three essay questions and ratings from teachers. Out of the students who applied, 82 students were invited to the induction ceremony scheduled for May 2.

While some students were beyond honored and excited and others saw it as a waste of time. But the students who saw it as a waste of time didn’t realize that they can gain so much out of NJHS — such as leadership opportunities, high school credits, social networking, community service hours, and much more. 

Jenna Baglio, 7th grader, said she is excited about her invitation to the induction ceremony. “I think having lots of responsibilities is good for me because it prepares me for college.  You can also make new friends, have fun, and engage in challenging projects” she said.

Mr. Patel and Mrs. Behnsch are the NJHS sponsors.

“NJHS recognizes outstanding students in area of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship,” said Mr. Patel.

Being in NJHS includes a wide range of responsibilities, not only at Dobie but also in the community. Students must make sure you treat their community well and contribute by giving back in many ways such as cleaning up trash, volunteer at local food banks, and more.

“NJHS recognizes outstanding students in area of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship,” said Mr. Patel.

According the NJHS website, the five main purposes that have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning are: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.
