Students in jr. high need about nine in a half hours of sleep every night. According to studies, most middle school students don’t get enough sleep every night, we asked some students what their opinions are about sleep. Our resulted showed that all 3/3 Dobie students don’t get the sleep they need at night.
Silvia Makori: 8th grader
She usually wakes up at 7:00 a.m. She said that she is supposed to get up at 6:30 am but sometimes sleeps in until 7:00 a.m. She goes to bed at 11:00 pm but she is supposed to go to bed at 10:00 p.m. Why? she said she watches videos until 11:00 pm. She wakes up early at 6:30 a.m. She has problems trying to wake up, but if she wakes up at 7:00 am she is wide awake.
Alexa Salazar, 8th grader
Alexa Salazar, 8th grader, says that she falls asleep at midnight or 1:00 p.m. She usually gets up at 7:00 am to get ready for school. She said she has trouble sleeping because she doesn’t like her bed hot or cold. She gets at least gets 6 hours of sleep. “I prefer to start school late because I’m not a morning person,” said Salazar.
Eleny Mable-Cordero, 8th grader
Eleny Mable-Cordero, 8th grader, usually wakes up at 6:20 am. She said she is usually falls asleep at 7:00 – 7:30 a.m. Sleep is important to this student because if she doesn’t gets enough sleep she gets grumpy. She said “I really only goes to sleep late on weekends.”She has trouble waking up in the morning because she turns off her alarm and falls back asleep. She prefers to be at school early, “but the earlier we start the less sleep we get.”
