Letter To The Editor: The Press is Essential for the Government

Dear Editor,
I completely agree with your article because as journalists we are informing the people. I also agree for the reasons that no president has ever gone against the constitution, Trump has said many false statements himself, and our freedom of speech and press is the reason our government works the way it does.
With President Trump claiming that the journalists are the enemy of the people, it makes me a little upset because we are trying to make sure that everyone knows what’s going on. Myself as a journalist is trying to make sure that the students at Dobie Jr. High know when an upcoming festival or dance is, as well as football games and new students everyone should try to meet.
“The First Amendment, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights, was submitted to the states for ratification on September 25, 1789, and adopted on December 15, 1791.”(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution) Along with the Constitution came the First Amendment Right which was freedom of speech and the press. For over 230 years no president has ever disapproved of any rights on the constitution; that was before Donald Trump. Our President has made it clear that he does not like the press.
Trump has said that all the press does is lie. I think this makes him a hypocrite because as you said, Trump has stated “4,229 false or misleading statements in his first 558 days in office.” This is an insane amount of things that could be taken wrong.
The freedom of the press is extremely important because without it, we would have no say in who and how our government is run. Free speech and a free press together allow people to obtain information from a wide range of sources that are not dictated or restricted by the government, so that they can make decisions, develop opinions, and communicate their views to the government (by voting, assembling, protesting, sharing ideas,etc.)(https://www.facinghistory.org/resource-library/facing-ferguson-news-literacy-digital-age/importance-free-press)
These are all the reasons why I think that us journalists and editors are essential for our country as well as the world. Along with my own opinions on Trump’s clear statements about how he thinks the journalist are the enemy of the people. We’re informative, Trump is the first president to ever undoubtedly disagree with an amendment on the constitution, he himself has said thousands of misleading statements, and we’re essential to the government. Thank you for reading my letter and agreeing on the same opinion.
Sincerely,
Lauren Brochu

I love this, and I only noticed one or two spaces where a comma was needed or grammar could be better. Other than that I really liked it.
