Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,
I understand your struggle towards freedom of speech and how it means a lot. Thousands of news article have said the first amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances,” as said on the Legal Information Institute, or the LII.
As many articles mention, they have done no harm to the public, nor are they “the enemies of the american people”, as Donald Trump proclaims. To me, I don’t see how, and why, news media is considered “the enemy of the american people.” They offer real and true statements, evidence, quotes, and of course, news to the public, and the only way the news media can be the enemy of the people is if the news reporter, or anyone part of the news network, commit one or more crimes a normal American would do, for say robbery, manslaughter, or rape.
Though I am only a young journalist, I have my words on freedom of the press and what it means not only to me or you, but to the news media worldwide. As said in the constitution, the American people have the right to freedom of speech; you and I are American citizens that have the right to freedom of speech. We may not riot or cause a rally, like what has been done the past years, but we can still continue our job and remain independent from what the president says.
If people don’t believe you, so what? We’ll still have our say in our message when we say we are not the enemy of the American people. We will not be bombarded with insults saying we deliver “fake news”; We will always stay prominent with our belief.
I hope you, and your company, can understand the power of freedom as well as the 1st amendment, because as Thomas jefferson said: “ “Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.”
Sincerely,
Sophia Danielle Lee
