Last year I went to a school that was called Heritage, and there are a lot of things different between this school, and Heritage.
There is one less class at this school, and the day is 30 minutes shorter. At Heritage there weren’t enough lockers for everybody so we didn’t use them and they just took up a large portion of the hallways, which were already really small.
The hallways got really crowded, as in, you wouldn’t be able to move any direction besides the way everybody else was going, and it was easy to get pushed down the wrong hallway. There were also plenty of people who would just push the person in front of them, which usually caused you to bump into the person in front of you, which was always annoying. Here, the school is much bigger, and the hallways have more space.
The grading system at Heritage was pretty weird. It went from 1 to 5, 1 was a 60 and 5 was 100. The problem was that if you just turned in a paper with your name, or got very little done, you would get a 1, still failing, but you didn’t have to do anything to get it, making school a lot easier. As an example, if you got a 30 on a test, you would still make a 60, because of the grading system. As you would expect, most people didn’t really try in most of their classes because they would make a 60 even if they got something like a 0, or a 20, or a 70 for doing very little.
The teachers at both schools, for the most part, are pretty good. The overall layout of this school was confusing at first, but after a few days I learned where things were. It has only been a few weeks since school started, so I can’t really say whether the classes are much better here, but so far they are fine.
Dobie, so far, for me, is better than Heritage. There are a lot of things that make it better: Lockers are actually being used, the school is much bigger, the school day is shorter, and a lot of other things make it a better school, in my opinion.
