Dear Editor,
Freedom of press is in the very first amendment, but president Trump has said a number of times that he hates the press and that he should be in control. I believe that people should inform people of what is going on either it be through newspaper or on a screen.Journalism or spreading of news has been happening for a long time and this job is very important to many people who wanted to be informed. There can be moments where some articles can spread false news, but for most of the part journalist try to give the whole truth.
Currently journalists are being attacked for sharing what is going on in the world by president Trump and by the followers of him.If Trump was in control of the press who knows if he is saying the complete truth. There could be something very wrong going on that could affect us,but we might not know because Trump doesn’t want to put us in a worry.Sometimes we need to know this stuff like that even though it might put us in a worry. What would our world be like without journalists ? We would be so clueless.
There is a reason why freedom of press is the First Amendment.James Madison proposed the first amendment -”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”- First Amendment. This Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, for over 200 years this piece has been with us now all of a sudden we have doubts that Trump will interfere with it. Let’s stand by this Amendment because it has been with us through some amazing history that has eventually led us to today.
Sincerely,
Pieper Jones
