The Importance of Veterans Day

Oluwadara Tomogun, Staff Reporter

According to http://www.militaryspot.com Veterans day is the day we celebrate and honor our veterans for what they’ve done and still do to protect our country. Veterans day which used to be called Armistice Day marks the day that World War 1 ended. It happened on the eleventh hour, the eleventh day, and eleventh month. Which is why we celebrate Veterans day on November eleventh.

The five branches of military are Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. The Air Force’s primary mission is to fly planes, helicopters, and satellites. The Coast Guard mainly deal with waterways. They also do rescues, law enforcement, drug prevention, and clear waterways.

The Army generally move into an area they secure it and instills order and values before it leaves and they stay on land. The Marine Corps are known as the US rapid reaction force. They train to fight by sea and land. They are also known as the fiercest warriors. The Navy are usually on the sea but they also can go by air and land, so they can keep the oceans safe and make peace.

I think veterans should be celebrated everyday and not just November 11th since they help keep our country’s peace..
