Veterans Day wasn’t all ways known as veterans day, when the idea was first established it was called, Armistice Day and it was celebrated as the first anniversary of the end of World War I, but today we use this day to thank our military for serving our country and risking their lives for our safety.
In our military we have five different branches, first we have the Air Force and Air Force Reserve, they are in charge of the air and space power, their primary mission is to fly helicopters, planes, and satellites.
The next branch is the Army and Army Reserves, they are the ultimate land power, the army will usually move to an area and install orders and values before they leave, they also protect U.S installations and property throughout the world.
The third branch is the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve, there main mission is primarily with domestic waterway they also do rescue missions, drug prevention, law enforcement, and clear out waterways.
Fourth we have the Marines Corps and Marines Corps Reserves, they are known as the U.S rapid reaction force, they are trained to fight by sea and land. They are usually the first “boots on the ground”. Marines are known as the world’s fiercest warriors.
Lastly we have the Navy and Navy Reserve, they usually accomplish their missions by sea, but also by air and land. They secure and protect the oceans around the world to create peace and stability, making the seas safe for travel and trade.
I think that our veterans are very brave and courageous for risking their lives for our safety and protection, and I think that it’s crazy that there are over 16.1 million veterans that have served in at least one war and that out of the 16 million Americans who served during World War II, about 558,000 are still alive. That’s insane that so many soldiers went to war but only 558,000 of them came back. I would just like to thank all of our veterans and, I wish that more people would realize the importance of Veterans Day, because without them we wouldn’t be protected.
