PV:Veterans are very important in our everyday life. Our veterans fight wars, protect our borders, and come with battle scars they may have to live with forever.

Veterans Day Origin

Veterans day originated “Armistice Day” on November 11,1919.  This day was created as the first anniversary of World War I. In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially renamed “Armistice Day” as Veterans Day. Originally Veterans day was on the fourth Monday in October but Congress decided to change it back to November 11 because of the historical significance of the date.  In Europe, Great Britain, and many other countries it is common to have two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11 to honor veterans and all the fallen soldiers that have fought wars, battles, and protected our border.

Veterans that Serve our county

At least 16.1 billion veterans have served in one war. 2 million of those veterans are women, 21.8 billion other veterans are men but not all veterans come from the US. So many veterans deploy overseas and fight in wars but they also have children. Sometimes being a veteran means you have to leave your child or move to another state or possibly another country. Of the 16 million that served in World War II 558,000 are still alive.Over 2.9 billion veterans receive compensation for disabilities.

Growing up as a Military Child

Growing up as a military child I was born in Germany. Once I had turned 6 months we went to Texas for a family reunion. After my family got stationed back to Germany where we stayed until I was about 3 or 4. Since then I have been in about 4 other places but these are the sacrifices our veterans make daily and we don’t realize it.These are just some sacrifices our veterans make just by moving around alot to different states and countries is a big struggle, not just for the veteran but also for their child/children .Veterans are very important to me because not only do they protect our country they are the greatest heroes of America.
