All my life my parents have been in the military and they still are. My mom and dad both are in the air force and have been for many years. My dad has been in the military for 29 years, now he is 47 and will retire next year. My mom has been in the air force for about 25 years and she is 43 years old. It’s not easy being part of a military family, you have to move around a lot and keep making new friends.

I was born in England at one of the air force bases they have and I was not even one years old when I moved. When I left England my family and I moved to Travis Air Force base in California. I lived in California for four years and I absolutely loved it there.

Then when I was four I found out we were moving to Virginia, which I was not happy about. I didn’t even know that we were going to be moving around a lot. We lived in Virginia for about two years and it was not easy getting used to a new school and having to make new friends. Once I got used to it I loved it there, mostly because it snowed and I have never seen snow before.

After two years of living there my parents told me we were moving again. However, I was kind of excited to be living in another country, but I was going to miss my friends. Living in Germany was probably the hardest starting out because I couldn’t speak the language and my mom wasn’t there. She had to go to Korea for a year, so it was just me and my dad. I slowly began to love Germany and it is my favorite place I’ve ever lived in.

The food there was really good and I loved almost everything about it. Leaving Germany was very hard because I had to leave my best friend. We were moving back to California. I only lived there for a year and a half but, I still enjoyed living there.

Finally I moved to Texas and this is the last place we are living. Growing up in a military family is definitely not easy but, it isn’t the worst thing ever either. You get to move around and see different places and try different foods that other people may never be able to do. It makes me proud to know how hard my parents work to defend this country and give me the opportunity to see the world. It is an honor to be part of a military family.
