Veterans Day is the day when we celebrate our appreciation for all military soldiers who have fought (or are fighting) for our lives all around the world. There are many reasons why we celebrate this holiday, but most citizens and veterans celebrate it to show their support and thanks to all veterans.
Veterans Day is important to me because our veterans do a plethora of good things for our nation and they deserve this day of respect and thanks.
Soldiers working in the military are incredible and that they deserve our respect and admiration. Not only do they work to protect the government and our nation from the enemies, and other nations that may want to put our soldiers in harm. Even the soldiers who are buried are just as important as the living. This is my interpretation on why I believe Veterans Day is important.
According to www.history.com, Veterans Day started on November 11, 1919, to celebrate the end of World War 1 and was originally known as “Armistice Day.”
After 19 years, it finally became a national holiday and was first celebrated on Nov. 11, 1938. Later in 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of “Armistice Day” to what we now know as “Veterans Day.”
In 1971, a law was passed that changed the date of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October. In 1975, Gerald Ford returned Veterans Day back to its original date, November 11, because of the importance the day holds for all veterans.
When we celebrate Veterans Day, we remember all of the soldiers who have fought for our lives or that are currently in the military. I definitely celebrate Veterans Day to show my support and gratitude to those who are serving and have served. All of the Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Marine soldiers are included in the list of those we celebrate during Veterans Day.
We celebrate the Navy because of how they protect and maintain peace in the oceans and seas, so that our traders are able to travel safely and peacefully. Not only does being a part of the Navy require a lot of work, but it requires a tremendous amount of strength and determination. Our soldiers overseas are resilient and prepared for almost any attack that may come their way.
The Coast Guard works to ensure that all domestic waters are safe and secure. They make sure that these waters are safe through drug prevention, law enforcement, clearing these waters, and undergoing rescue missions.
Like the Navy and Coast Guard, the Marines work in water to maintain contentment, but unlike the Navy, they are able to fight on land as well. These soldiers are known around the globe as the world’s most powerful soldiers, because of their strength and how they fight on land and in water.
The Army is the most known branch around the world mainly because they fight primarily on land. The Army’s soldiers enter an area, secure it, and maintain order and peace throughout the area. They also protect government buildings and areas, protecting the structures and the people within them.
The Air Force works mainly in the air, but they also conduct some space missions. They work to fly helicopters, airplanes, and work with satellites. Their job may seem simple, but it requires a lot of endurance and hard work. (All of the information about the branches is provided by www.military.com)
