Dear Editor,

“When the public’s right to know is threatened, and when the rights of free speech and free press are at risk, all of the other liberties we hold dear are endangered.”  The importance of free press is to express facts, opinions and to speak freely without fear or retaliation. According to the first amendment, congress cannot prohibit freedom the press.

The president shouldn’t attack journalist because they have the freedom to express the facts and their views.  It is a violation of freedom of speech. President Trump is attacking journalists and saying “The press is the enemy of the people”.“Just stick with us, don’t believe the crap you see from these people,the fake news ,” and saying “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what is happening.”  In his opinion, he wants to close down mainstream news outlets, like CNN , The Washington post and The New York Times. I believe this is dangerous. The american people rely on the news to keep them informed.

 If we didn’t have the media, how would we stay abreast of issues.  America is democratic society which means it is ruled by the people.  If you remove the people out of the equation then we become a communist society.  The freedom we hold dear would be stripped away and we would all be blind to what’s going on. Just imagine, if the media never caught wind of what was happening during the holocaust.  Far more people would have died. It was because the media informed the world about the horrific event that lives were saved. Free press keeps our governing officials somewhat honest and prevents them from doing anything they wish. That’s why Journalist are very important.

 A journalist is a person who interviews people and collect and report information.  A journalist can work with general issues or specialize in certain issues such as war, weather or even sports.  We need journalist. Free press should never be threaten.  It is an important part of our society.  The American people rely on free press to keep them informed.
