Fun at Schertzfest
People from all over Texas and beyond joined the Schertz community to ride the rides, eat, check out the booths, and have fun at Schertzfest.
According to www.visitschertz.com, the first Schertzfest held in 2008 was to honor the 50th Anniversary of the City’s incorporation. That year, activities were held all year. Since then, the City of Schertz continues the celebration. This year’s event was held at Pickrell Park on September 16 and 17.
There were many different forms of entertainment. One way people had fun was to beat the bongos. People sat in a half circle on haystacks playing to the rhythm. An African man named Mike sang a song called “Jumbo”, which means “Hello” in Africa. Everyone sang along, including a little 2-year-old boy named Jorge Delgado. Mike invited the toddler to dance in the center of the circle, and eventually he got up and put his hands in the air and said “Ha, Ha, Ha, this is fun!”
Another way people had fun was by checking out the food and accessories booths. One booth was selling bracelets, ornaments, chains, and other assorted items.
“All of it is hand made and it is to spread hope.” Roselyn Rubel, 12 years old, bought two bracelets. “These are so cute, my favorite is the blue one, duh, I mean, it’s BLUE!”
Did you go to the Schertzfest? If not, I suggest you go next year, especially if you like rides, fun booths, drumming to the beat, and having fun with your family! If you plan to go, I will see you there next year!
