PV: The STAAR is too stressful!

STAAR is a test that children take during Spring. According to the Texas Assessment Management System website, “STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. The goal is to ensure that all students receive what they need to be academically successful.” These STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests are just too much. We shouldn’t use them anymore.
We take tests in mathematics, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Depending on what grade you’re in, you could take two to four tests per year. (All according to the Texas Assessment Management System website) It’s too much of a hassle, moving everyone around, and taking down posters. Texas could just give students unit tests throughout the whole year. Those already see if they understand the concepts of the units, so why do students need a huge combined test of what they’ve already done?
Also, they freak everyone out. Students are always stressed on test days, wondering if they’re going to pass or fail. According to Texas Assessment Management System, “All public school students in Texas, grades 3–12, take STAAR tests.” So even third graders get stressed during Spring!
Thinking about testing can get students tired, too. Four hours is just too much. I find that when I’m taking the STAAR, I’m constantly thinking about taking a nap. It distracts me, which could result in a lower grade. I’m sure lots of other students experience this, because I can see other people dozing off and trying to take a nap. This isn’t good!
Teachers have it bad too! They have to stand around until all thirty (or so) students are done testing. They can’t really talk, be on their phones, or anything. They’re not even allowed to look at the test! Their job is to prepare their students so that they can pass. What if their students don’t pass? That’s a lot of stress!
I don’t see much of a point for the STAAR. There might be a couple pros, but there are a lot more cons. STAAR just gives everyone a lot of stress. We don’t need it.
