The best day of Avery Hirsch’s life was when she finally told the counselor that her friend [at that time] was self-harming.

In October she went to the counselor’s office to talk about her friend (at the time). The weeks before she told, her friend (at the time) had been harming themselves. Being the good friend she is, she told in concern for their well-being. When she sat down in the counselor’s office, she began to tell everything that she had seen, heard, and experienced.

“As I told [the counselor], I began to cry and shake, feeling as though my friendship was crumbling,.” she said.

“I was concerned for my friend’s mental health, and I was concerned if he kept on hurting himself then he wouldn’t be able to be my friend anymore,.” Hirsch said

She told the counselor that she wanted him to know that she was one to tell them about his self-harming. When he found out he yelled at her and they didn’t talk for a while, even though she kept trying to make things better.

“At the beginning, I didn’t even try to reconcile with him because I was so mad,” Hirsch said

“I was mad because he was being really selfish and only thinking of himself, he didn’t realize what was going on around him and that people have emotions not just himself and that his actions affect others emotions” Hirsch said.

“It was the best day of my life because I was able to express my feelings finally and be able to get a big weight off my chest, as well as realize he wasn’t as good of a friend as I thought he was.” Hirsch said.

Even though most would say that she lost a friend that day, she says, “It was really depressing but it was also a big eye-opener.”
