The STAAR test, State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, can be good but also bad. The STAAR test is at the end of each school year, although it can be good and also bad.

According to the Texas Education Agency all of the tests and assessments are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills where the students are tested on the core subjects math, reading, writing, social studies, and science.  

I don’t have any issues with taking the STAAR because I know that I just need to focus and make sure that I don’t make any silly mistakes, and some students may like taking the STAAR because  they know they can do it and they have confident in themselves.

Other students though, think that the STAAR test is pressuring because they know that if they don’t pass it they cant move on to the next grade. Students (like myself) tend to get nervous about the math and the social studies test because students struggle more in those subjects than any other ones. I thought that I was going to struggle more with the math than anything else, because math isn’t one of my best subjects, but after the test I was super proud of myself and had more faith in myself because I had just over thought the situation and thought it was going to be way harder than it actually turned out to be.

According to NEWS4SA a law was proposed that would eliminate the STAAR test passing requirements for Texas students. “The goal of the bill is to make sure students are no longer “severely under prepared” for statewide assessments, while shielding kids from distressing test-taking conditions.” says  NEWS4SA. In my opinion I don’t like that because students need to know that there is a limit to where they need to actually try to get to the limit or excell it, and if students knew there was no passing grade they wouldn’t try their best they would just give up and it wouldn’t tell the teachers or state weather the students learned anything or not.
