Moving Onto High School

Is high school scary? That’s the question going through every eighth graders mind right now. Most of them are scared but happy; mixed emotions. Their excited to go to a new school meaning a fresh new start but also leaving there little teenage self behind.
Most teenagers are scared, nervous and excited all at the same time! According to Kids Health.org, most teens are worried about making new friends and if there is going to be more work, and if will get stressful with all the stuff going on.”So what’s high school really like? Is there more work? More stress? Will it be difficult going from being one of the oldest middle school students to one of the youngest high schoolers?”
David Hart is an 8th grader. He said, “I am happy and excited because I get to go to a fresh new school and that means a new start and new friends.”
In high school, students meet so many new people and it can be overwhelming, especially in a new environment. Most high schools are bigger than your middle school so on the first week or two it may feel like your getting consumed, especially going from the oldest in your school to the youngest.
When students go into high school usually people tell you that: “They don’t like freshmen because their so annoying.” Says upperclassmen. But to be honest they’re just trying to scare you so you don’t come into the school thinking that you’re all that and a bag of chips.
High school is going to go by pretty fast, so by getting into clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities will help your high school years be more fun and memorable. According to Public Schools Review website, “A survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007 and reported by the NFHS found that the average GPA of a high school athlete was 2.84, while a student who was not involved in athletics had an average GPA of 2.68.” Most athletes tend to keep their grades up because bad grades equals no playing time, which could result in you getting kicked off the team and someone else taking your spot.
One big thing is that students could lose friends.Like you may have a best friend but then in high school he or she could turn on you and you will finally see their true colors, and they will not always be pretty! The friends you have right now will most likely not be with you all the way up to senior year, or even moving onto college. Lots of drama starts and one thing always leads to the next, and bam you may still have ten friends or maybe barely even one.
You’re gonna enjoy your high school years and they will go by SO fast!
