I believe counselors are very important. In my experience, with depression, my counselor was someone I could talk to. Last year, my depression was really bad, and I spoke to my counselor almost weekly. They helped me get through some stuff that I wouldn’t have been able to get through alone.
National School Counseling Week 2020, “School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans,” was celebrated from Feb. 3–7, 2020, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve
school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
I hope that our school counselors get the respect they deserve. Their job is to help students through their academic careers. Counselors are people that care, and without them, where would we be? I mean, there are times where students rarely ever have to talk to a counselor, and they have their lives figured out, but still, there’s always someone out there that’s gonna need some help.
Our school has 3 counselors: Mrs. Navarro, Mrs. Ruhd, and Mrs. Shroeder. Each one of them is available every day to talk to if you need them. Not only do counselors deal with students’ emotions, they also help set you up for later grades. They help you create a 4-year plan so you know exactly what you’re doing in high school.
So yes, I believe that our counselors should get a special week of recognition. Our counselors are kind, and they care. They are also very helpful, and I appreciate their help.
