Viewpoint: How we Honor Our Counselors
March 2, 2020
Counselors should be honored for what they do to help schools stay safe! Counselors help Dobie Students not get bullied, get their 4 year plan ready for highschool, etc. Without counselors, we don’t know what our school would be like today.
Counselors at Dobie include: Ms. Monica Navarro, Mrs. Jenna Ruhd, and Mrs. Sara Schroeder.
Counselors help schools become a better place, and prevent bullying/drama from occurring. They help solve issues and problems students have, and help 8th graders get ready for highschool. Counselors also give valuable lessons to students who are in need of it. According to the website “Career Explorer”, it states “A school counselor is a member of the education team, and is someone who gives valuable assistance to students, helping them with their academic goals, their social and personal development, and with their career development. They work in public or private elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.”
We interviewed some Dobie Students seeing what they think about how important counselors are to our school. Carley Caloura says “Lots of Dobie Students don’t reach out to counselors because they are too afraid to! She says they need to do a better job, and reach out to them.” Madison Rivera says, “I feel like they are important because they reach out to teachers and students who need help when they are in a bad situation.” According to Dobie Students, counselors seem pretty important to our school and how they help with different situations.
Counselors also help students with their career goals and opportunities in life, and also with bullying. Counselors met with us every month or so to discuss high school, and our careers. They helped us plan our 4 year highschool plan so we can succeed in highschool, and in our future career. Some schools have huge issues with bullying and situations leading to it. Bullies aren’t tolerated in many schools, and counselors prevent this from happening. They teach students proper behavior and how to prevent the bully from bullying them. School counselors are all about helping to make your school experience the best it can be.
Counselors are very important to Dobie Junior High. If you see a counselor sometime, take the time to thank them and tell them how thankful you are for helping you out. Dobie Students are thankful for all of the counselors for making our education experiences a lot better. In conclusion, counselors are super important to all schools world-wide.
