Marvel movies are popular for many reasons. The movies seem to have it all– a good story, wonderful actors, amazing special effects, and characters that are loved. The movies are most popular with teenagers and Dobie students are no exception.

“I love Marvel because there’s always something you don’t expect,” 8th grader, Breann Ellis said.

Marvel has a whole creative team behind the scenes working to make sure that the movies and plot twists are exciting! That’s one of the many reasons people love them so much.

“Marvel is so popular,” 7th grader, Shaun Tait said. “Because of the special effects and the amazing actors that play the roles.”

According to Marvel.com,  “Marvel Entertainment, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, is one of the world’s most prominent character-based entertainment companies, built on a proven library of more than 8,000 characters featured in a variety of media over seventy-five years. Marvel utilizes its character franchises in entertainment, licensing and publishing. For more information visit marvel.com. ”

Tait said he has many favorite Marvel movies, but was able to choose one: “That’s a hard one! Probably Civil War because I love the end scene.” According to Marvel.com, the 2016 action movie is: “Civil War is Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.”

The Marvel franchise spends 100-200 million dollars on standalone films and up to 350 million dollars on movies with the whole team of Avengers in them.

Mark Ruffalo, who portrays Hulk in the movies, told The Hollywood Reporter in December of 2019 his theory as to what makes the movies so wildly loved. “They want to see people fighting for the little guy and on behalf of the little guy,” said Ruffalo.

People love to see heroes in action because they love to see the underdog come out on top and these movies do a great job of making even the smallest of characters important in some way.

“Marvel has good stories and a good franchise. Those things together make a good movie,”  8th grader, Jacob Holguin said.
