Period 1

HANNAH DAWKINS

Hello. My name is HANNAH DAWKINS and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about Americans storming the Washington Capitol, I felt discouraged, it seemed this new year doesn’t halt the curse over 2020 and now 2021. The start of this new year is not what everyone was expecting. Even after a presidential candidate gets chosen, these types of things that will continue as a country. I hope eventually we can remember that no matter our beliefs, we are all humans and we are all Americans. But until then, we have to keep fighting and staying together.

 — Hannah Dawkins, 8th grade

Sarah Billings

Hello, my name is Sarah Billings and I’m in 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High school. Today as i read and listen about the capitol i feel very upset with how people think violence will solve their problems. As an individual I don’t like Donald Trump and nor his supporters, it’s like they are playing the victim and I just can’t even describe how upset and disappointed I am in the people of this world. He just cant admit he lost so he wants a recount and that’s the supid cuz they already did. He has done so many bad things and people think it’s ok cuz sometimes people change but I don’t think they do or at least bad people like him. I’m very confused how those people that’s ok, PEOPLE DIED! That’s not ok, they had families too they had a life it just makes me so so sad people can KILL someone and get on with their day like it’s just a normal day.

—Sarah Billings, 8th grade

KENDRA HINZE

Hello. My name is Kendra Hinze and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol, I feel shocked that this has happened because something like this hasn’t happened since the 1800 hundreds and I’m really disappointed in these people. 2021 has started off a rough start to another 2020. Now we got Trump wanting to recount the votes. People that broke into the Capitol are blaming police because there are pepper spraying people. I don’t understand why this is the police’s fault–they could do much.

–Kendra Hinze, 7th grade

GENEVIEVE COX

Hello. My name is GENEVIEVE COX  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the washing Capitol, I feel like this is very unfair. When the BLM protests were happening there was major cps and tear gas, it’s not Trump’s fault–it’s the people. Trump just told them to keep fighting for him to be in office, it’s the police and the people’s fault. There was no reason to get angry and violent if the cops were more forceful and pushed the people to stay out then this would have never happened. Yes people have their own opinions, but here’s mine.

–Genevieve Cox, 8th grade

KYLA MARSHALL

Hello. My name is Kyla Marshall  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol and other topics, I feel nervous for the topics today as we are about to discuss political conflicts in today’s news. The Trump supporters  were encouraged by Trump just yesterday and several Americans invaded the Capitol as congress was deciding on who won the presidential election.

— Kyla Marshall, 8th grade

JAYLA WALLIS

Hello. My name is Jayla Wallis and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump Supporters going to raid the capitol, I feel disappointed that the fact that people are like this. It’s sad that nobody is shooting them down like they did at the BLM protests. This proves that white privilege exists. I will never understand why there are people upset that their Lord and Savior didn’t win. I can’t believe that the NATIONAL GUARD didn’t show up ‘till today. I really hope that one that this country will get better. COVID will never get better because of people like this gathering in large groups. I would just like my life to go back to normal.

— Jayla Wallis, 7th grade

AMINA SINAYOKO

Hello. My name is Amina Sinayoko and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School.

Today as I read and listen to the news about the rioting at the capitol makes me feel upset that this is America. It’s embarrassing to see these people act so immaturely because their president didn’t win the election. Especially to be rioting with no mask on in the middle of a global pandemic while putting other lives at risk. I can’t believe they let them get away with invading the capitol and bringing guns but when people peacefully protested for the BLM movement, many people were injured. It’s sad that 2021 just began and this is how we’re starting the year off.

— Amina Sinayoko, 7th grade

SOPHIE HOOPER

Hello. My name is Sophie Hooper and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about republicans storming the Capitol, I feel annoyed that these people are gathering up, with no masks, all because their savior didn’t win the election. It’s so silly to protest an election that was proved to be real and authentic. They’ve already recounted. They just can’t accept the fact that Biden has won, and is soon being sworn in. Trump supporters are so hypocritical. They said this summer that we weren’t supposed to PEACEFULLY protest, and then they pull up to the capitol with GUNS and break into the building. Why is it that when we were protesting about how black lives NEED to matter, we were getting tear-gassed, shot at with rubber bullets, and arrested? This is one of the MANY examples of white privilege. Where’s the national guard when we actually need them? Are black fists more threatening than guns?

 –Sophie Hooper, 7th grade

BRIANNA FORD

Hello. My name is Brianna Ford and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the capitol building in D.C, I feel that it was a really disappointing time in history of the election period. Seeing how those Trump supporters acted over a man who`s only greedy for money and doesn’t actually care about America or its people is disappointing.

Brianna Ford, 8th grade

EMILY PETERSON

Hello. My name is Emily Peterson and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about a mob breaking in the Capitol and vandalizing stuff, I feel surprised and think this is just crazy. I also think that it is horrible that people even got killed. This in my opinion just proves what a president bad Trump was being by encouraging this mob and setting a poor example. I also think that our country and the people in it need to look around and see what we are becoming and change or at least try.

— Emily Peterson, 7th grader

AUSTIN CORN

Hello. My name is Austin Corn and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots yesterday, I feel so dissapointed of how stupid Republicans are for what they think they can acheive for being a criminal. And how can you support someone who can’t keep their act together?

–Austin Corn, 8th grade

DANIEL HINOJOS

Hello. My name is Daniel Hinojos and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about an angry mob of the 45th president’s supporters attacking the Washington D.C. Capitol, I feel disappointed in this country and our 45th president because it’s so unnecessary and disappointing. The thing is that you can protest but peacefully and those rioters broke everything about that.

— Daniel Hinojos, 8th grade

JARVION PRICE

Hello. My name is Jarvion Price  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about trump supporters breaching the capitol and disrespecting the capitol and getting violent on the president’s  account, I feel disappointed at what this world has come to

— JARVION PRICE, 8th grade

JAMERE TAYLOR

Hello. My name is Jamere Taylor and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the break in of the Capitol I feel disgusted by this country. That was so unnecessary and the 45th president did not even attempt to stop it. I am hurt by the way these people did these things for no good reason.

— Jamere Taylor, 8th grade

JALEN MALONE

Hello. My name is Jalen Malone and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol, I feel disappointment and anger because of how low this country has gotten. It’s about to be broken because a president can’t accept the fact that they lost the election and can’t leave the heart of democracy. While also telling their supporters to basically storm the Capitol and not accept defeat. I’m wondering what they think that they are going to accomplish because they don’t realize that they’re also trespassing and that it’s literally breaking and entering–like they don’t realize that some people died and they’re going to count it as a necessary “sacrifice” to the cause. They also don’t realize that COVID is still a thing and it’s going to spread like crazy because people aren’t putting their masks up.

— Jalen Malone, 8th grade

KYLAR JENKINS

Hello. My name is Kylar Jenkins and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the capitol, I feel discouraged and upset. This isn’t what we should be doing; we should be more mature. This is not a good way to start the new year. This is so sad. It scares me. What world do we live in? Most of them are adults. Shouldn’t they be mature? Breaking into the capitol wont make Trump 2020.

— Kylar Jenkins, 8th grade

LIZETH MORALES

Hello. My name is Lizeth Morales and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots happening at the capitol, I feel upset and disappointed. I think they shouldn’t have done a  protest and break in. The president also encouraged it. Trump shouldn’t have encouraged it in the first place. These people are expecting COVID to end. But how would it if this is what they decide to be doing? This is going to make the COVID spike even more than it already did because of Christmas. What were they benefiting from this riot? I also believe the riot compared to the black lives matter protests were treated very differently. The people at the Black Lives Matter protests were tear gassed and some were injured. Some were even killed. I think this whole protest was very biased.

— Lizeth Morales, 8th grade

Briana Gonzales

Hello. My name is Briana and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol, I feel disappointed because people go to war for the country and for the capitol building and then our own Ameericans are the ones trashing and breaking into it.

— Briana Gonzales, 7th grade

Andrew Whittenberg

Hello. My name is Andrew Whittenberg and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about what’s going on in the capitol it was scary watching our Capitol being vandalized and being breached on the news. In my opinion I thought it was infamous. I feel sad and shocked.

— Andrew Whittenberg, 7th grade

Leah Bryant

Hello. My name is Leah Bryant and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about Trump supporters rioting at the Capitol , I feel shocked and upset because people shouldn’t do that and it’s just ridiculous that they can’t admit Trump lost the election. The things that just made me boil in anger is that they took down stuff that was in the Capitol building and breaking in with no security or cops stopping them.

— Leah Bryant, 8th grade

Jaiden Frensley

Hello my name is Jaiden Frensley.I am an 8th grader at Dobie jr high. I was watching the news last night in disappointment.

ALEX PAULSON

Hello. My name is Alex Paulson and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol, I feel surprised and disappointed that this happened.

— Alex Paulson, 8th grade

MADISON CORTES

Hi, my name is Madison Cortes and I am an 8th grader at Dobie Junior High. Whenever I found out about what happened at the Capitol, I wasn’t surprised, because I had a feeling something like this would’ve happened but with the White House instead. I don’t find it fair how the policemen just let people go right ahead and terrorize whatever they want, but when it comes to protesting for justice for black lives, police see it as an opportunity to cause harm to everyone. It upsets me to know that people of other races and skin color have to be scared of this stuff. White privilege has been around longer than we all have been alive and it hurts me knowing that I’m a different race and I fear for my family because I don’t want anything to happen to them. Well, I guess that’s all I have to say for now. Thank you for reading.

-Madison Cortes, 8th grade

Period 2

LINDSEY BOYD

Hello. My name is Lindsey Boyd and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about The pro-Trump mob breaks into US capitol, I feel angry and its so displeasing to see these people taking flags OUR flags down to put in some Trump flags, even people like senators who like trump took a stand after this. The mob went way too far and disrespected all of the people like senators and congressmen were hiding for their safety and even journalists could have died reporting this awful event. It was way out of proportion.

— Lindsey Boyd, 8th grade

Alina Hernandez

Hello. My name is Alina Hernandez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about people storming the Capitol, I feel like people take things really far. So many people believe in things so strongly they are willing to get hurt for it. I am very impressed that congress continued even when they were in danger. This is the craziest thing I have ever seen.

— Alina Hernandez, 8th grade

JACI ANDERSON

Hello. My name is Jaci Anderson and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Republican Pro-Trump supporters rioting at the White House and ended up breaking into the Capitol, I feel really surprised. Representatives and senators ducking their heads from guns being fired. Supporters trash the capitol, trying to prevent Biden as president. People were brave enough to go that far just to fight for what they want. It’s unbelievable how supporters would go to that extreme. This shouldn’t have happened this way–this should have been done peacefully. This is pretty embarrassing to our country. I get that the supporters were angry, but they shouldn’t have broken into the Capitol because they didn’t get their way this time. This will most likely end in more hatred toward people in our country.

–Jaci Anderson, 8th grade

BINDI JO DAVIS

Hello. My name is Bindi Jo and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol being raided, I feel like all Trump-supporters will be hated now. These people shouldn’t have done this, and nothing will make it right. I believe they should have stuck to peaceful protesting, and this doesn’t make it any better, but I do agree that all lives matter, and that Biden shouldn’t be president. If people really did vote for him, then so be it. I think the people that stormed the Capitol should feel this way too – let it happen, and when people see what’s really going on they’ll know they were wrong. They should have, but they didn’t, and now we have to deal with the outcome. Honestly, I couldn’t care less what other countries think about us. I want to get it right in our own country. Sort things out, give people facts, and quit with these lies. I understand anger about Biden getting so close to being able to destroy America, but this should not have been applied to resolve it. Despite all this, some people were wanting us to turn to communism and if it means fighting to keep our freedom then do that, but there are always better ways.

Bindi Jo Davis, 8th grade

Larkin Martinez

Hello. My name is Larkin Martinez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the U.S Capitol, I feel instead of wasting time and money on crazy things like this. We should be using it for putting roofs over people’s heads, giving people food to eat and helping people out of kindness.

— Larkin Martinez, 8th grade

Emma Ybanez

Hello. My name is Emma Ybanez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the U.S Capitol, I feel that these grown adults are acting very immature, they are supposed to be role models, but they are out there causing chaos and they are getting themselves hurt. Our senators and representatives were scared they may lose their lives. I’m very embarrassed for our country, and very disappointed. When they took down our American flags, that’s when I felt uneasy, because that resembles the people who fought for our country, risked their lives for us. Yes people have the right to have their own opinions and share them, but this is not ok. It was not okay when people were burning buildings down for BLM, yes I do believe they should be treated better, burning down buildings was not ok, people got hurt, just like this is not ok for them, to break things and ruin stuff. We would waste our money on trying to fix all that was ruined, instead of using it for what’s right, like helping others who need it.

–Emma Ybanez, 8th grade

Katie Mueller

Hello. My name is Katie and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the election and things going on in our world right now, I feel enraged. These are grown adults who have real jobs and children and lives that they live and they are acting like children. It amazes me that myself and other people my age can act more mature than adults who have over 20 years of life on us. There are lots of things going on in this world at the moment, things that need attention and can be solved in a peaceful way. There are going to be trillions of times that you are disappointed in the outcomes of things and it is not your right to do things such as this just because of it. We need to learn to respect and love everyone no matter where they came from, what they look like, or the color of their skin. This is ridiculous and things NEED to start changing NOW.

— Katie Mueller, 8th grade

Mykenzi Williams

Hello. My name is Mykenzi and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the break in at the US Capitol , I feel that the break in at the Capitol is a lot more dramatic than it should be. I completely understand how frustrating it can be, but  instead of acting like children and throwing a fit and putting people in danger, they should have tried other ways to get their attention. Social Media is the biggest platform that can be used to show your opinion. Even though you personally might not get noticed doesn’t mean that a group won’t be noticed. And we should not be angry with people who have an opinion other than ours. Just because someone thinks something other than you do doesn’t mean they are wrong, and it doesn’t mean that they are horrible people. They just think of the situation differently than you.

— Mykenzi Williams, 8th grade

MICHAEL KISER

Hello. My name is Michael Kiser and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr.High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the huge riot at the US Capitol, I feel disappointed in our country. We should be better than that. I feel very disturbed about this riot and the breaching its not right at all i feel really disappointed in our country i hope it gets better in the future it’s like a bunch of kids having temper tantrums and whining like little babies it’s really sad that a bunch of grown people acting like this.

 –Michael Kiser, 8th grade

CHRISTABELLA MALONE

Hello. My name is Christabella Malone and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the storming of the United States Capitol, I feel that this tragedy was a perfect example of white privilege in the United States. If the mob had not been filled with white faces, there would have been a massacre. There would have been beatings, tear gas, and shootings. In June with the BLM protests, the people were met with violence, and were approached by police playing military men. But this? The police weren’t violent, they weren’t using their authority, they practically let the mob break into the Capitol. So that really shows everyone the privilege you have when you’re white in America. I am ashamed, embarrassed, and scared. Is this what our country has really come to?

— Christabella Malone, 8th Grade

ZaQuila Petit

Hello my name is ZaQuila Petit and I am in 8th grade at J. Frank Dobie Jr High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about people raiding the White House I felt kind of scared for the people who went and got hurt. It was wild and in my opinion unnecessary.

–ZaQuila Petit, 8th grade

Adyson Flannery

Hello my name is Adyson Flannery and I am in 8th grade at J. Frank Dobie Jr High School. Today I read and listened to the news about the Pro-Trump mob breaks into the US state  Capitol. In my opinion I think this could have maybe been solved in a different way. It wasn’t unnecessary. People’s lives were threatened and in no way is that okay.

— Adyson Flannery, 8th grade

Hailey Gorzell

Hello. My name is Hailey Gorzell and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr High. Today as I read and listen to the news, about the Capitol breach, I feel terrible that the law-makers and senators were put in danger. I’m shocked that rioters were able to breach the capitol and I’m sad that they defaced public property and disrespected our flag. I’m worried for the safety of Americans, our law-makers, and our future.

Hailey Gorzell, 8th grade

Angelica Rivera

Hello. My name is Angelica Rivera and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol Breach, I feel very concerned for our future  and disappointed in the people.

Angelica Rivera, 8th grade

Alessandra Ramos

Hello. My name is Alessandra Ramos and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the Capitol Breach, my stomach turned upside down. I felt so embarrassed and disturbed by the country I call home. I believe that if the skin tone of the people who rioted was colored, there wouldn’t have been 4 deaths. There would have been tear gassing, and more deaths. I am absolutely appalled that in this country, the color of skin and your political party of your choice can divide the country in such a way, it makes me devastated.

 -Alessandra Ramos, 8th grade

Kaitlyn Ngo

Hello. My name is Kaitlyn Ngo and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the Capitol breach, I feel overall embarrassed and disappointed. Like seriously, things are already as terrible as they are, and for the same reason they think it’s a great idea to storm into the capitol and threaten the lives of the people who were there. Like Goodness! Can y’all not do that? I’m just really disappointed in the people.

Kaitlyn Ngo, 8th grade

Olivia Thuringer

Hello. My name is Olivia Thuringer and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about Pro-Trump mobs breaking into the US Capitol Building, I feel absolutely disgusted to call those people my peers and, more importantly, this country my home. Even if you don’t dig deep into yesterday’s events, the sheer hypocrisy is astonishing to me. In 2016, when Trump won the election, Liberals were told to “get over it” or “respect your president”, but now when they hear it, it doesn’t seem so easy. Or, in June with the Black Lives Matter protests, 93% of which were peaceful according to TIME and CNN, Trump stated that there were riots and we were thugs, but he called the protestors yesterday patriotic and chanted them on in a tweet that has since been deleted. There were even video clips of protestors waving “blue lives matter” flags while simultaneously hurting and shoving capitol police officers. If these people were any race but white, they would have been killed, arrested, and tear gassed at shocking rates as was proven by BLM protests. It just goes to show just how divided Donald Trump has made this country in his four long years as president.

-Olivia Thuringer, 8th grade

Jadyn Cook

Hello. My name is Jadyn Cook and I am an 8th grader at J.Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today

As I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the capitol as they call it a revolution and acting like children, while our president defended their actions saying “things like this happen”. And the cops are no better practically letting them through the door. Our vice president had to step up to stop this while our president is well and healthy. Nothing like this has happened to the capital other than 208 years ago at the war of 1812 and by the French. And BLM supporters could not have seen so much hospitality for their cause their peaceful protest where blocked off  while the president almost seems to almost encourage the capitol riots and have a laugh out of it. And this is all based on a lost election–a transference of power that has happened every 1-2 terms for almost all of American history. I feel disgraced and even in shock by these fellow American citizens for having no respect for one of our country’s most sacred buildings and America itself.

-Jadyn Cook, 8th grade

Period 3

JOAQUN MARTINEZ

Hello. My name is Joaquin Martinez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the Capitol Hill riots, I felt surprised at it because I haven’t seen such a riot as bad as this one, with 4 people dead and 52 of them arrested. Other news, Congress affirmed Joe Biden’s victory as the next president of the U.S. (Goodbye trump :)). I don’t know if this is good or bad for the U.S. but I had to bring it up. Also, these are the following people whose houses got vandalised because Congress failed to approve $2,000 stimulus checks: Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell..

— Joaquin Martinez, 8th grade

Aaron McDaniel

Hello. My name is Aaron McDaniel and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the attack on the United States Capitol Building, I feel very disappointed that people would interrupt a ceremony that has happened for over a century. I feel as those who are responsible should be punished because this was not a very American thing to do. I also feel like the current President should be held responsible for soliciting an attack on a U.S. Federal Building, during a time held ceremony, and I believe that the 25th Amendment should be taken into account. I also give my condolences to the Journalists who were at the event, and also trapped in the Senate Chamber during the attack, as well as the Senators who were there as well.

— Aaron McDaniel, 8th grade

DANGER LEAL

Hello. My name is Danger Leal and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the capitol I feel that it is crazy that all these people can storm the capitol and not get shot and hurt but in the blm protest that they were just peacefully protesting and the got shot and beat for peacefully protesting and it is because of race because if those people storming the capitol were black and hispanic, they would’ve died.

DANGER LEAL, 8th grade

ETHAN CORTEZ

Hello. My name is Ethan Cortez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news, I feel disappointed about what happened at the capitol but I am not upset. I  am also surprised because the Trump supporters said they would do a peaceful protest.

— Ethan Cortez , 8th grade

BROOKLYN RICE

Hello my name is Brooklyn Rice. I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie. Today I watched and read about what happened on the news about the  capitol getting raided. I feel really disappointed. I watched videos of the supporters and they are proud of what they did and I’m upset because of the way the police treated them compared to the peaceful protesters. They are treated differently because race and it’s wrong BLM should have been treated better since those Trump supporters did worse stuff. I also think that Trump should have done more instead of talk about how it’s unfair. What they did was wrong and they should be in jail because that was not a protest that was a mob.

— Brooklyn Rice, 8th grade

Jarrius Tritley

Hello. My name is Jarrius Tritley and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the storming of the Capitol, I feel just shocked and amazed to see all these people do dumb stuff. Why is my question? Why do you feel like you can just come and ruin our Capitol trashing building? They ere not doing it right. If there was a protest and it was peaceful, it would be fine but people took advantage and turned it into a riot. It’s just a big mess.

— Jarrius Tritley, 8th grade

MARISOL GUERRERO

Hello. My name is Marisol Guerrero and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the capitol and all the stuff that happened. I feel very shocked about how everyone behaved; it’s just not right. Then like all the journalists there, they put themselves in danger to give us news, they could’ve been killed by the crazy people who invaded the Capitol, anybody could’ve been killed and some people were killed. The police need to do their job better…like all those people got in but you know that if this were about BLM the police would be way more violent and BLM are way more peaceful than the craziness that happened yesterday. Then one more thing, this doesn’t really have to do with the mob breaking windows and stuff to get into the capitol but it’s still important to me. People wonder why we keep getting more Coronavirus cases. Like why do you think? There were so many crazy people in the mob breaking in but like how many were even wearing a mask or face covering.

— Marisol Guerrero, 7th grade

KAILEE RANDOLPH

Hello. My name is Kailee Randolph and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol invasion., I feel disappointed. This kind of behavior is nasty.I can’t believe that they stormed into the U.S CAPITOL and messed everything up. This should’ve been a PEACEFUL protest, not a riot. Looking back at the BLM riots there was tear gas and guns and military. If this was a BLM rally then they wouldn’t have gotten anywhere close to getting in, and there would’ve been SO many more people killed. This is a very bad way to start 2021.

— Kailee Randolph, 8th grade

CONNOR TINSLEY

Hello. My name is Connor and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol Raid, I saw that they were breaking windows and climbing walls to the balconies like the Boston Massacre when they killed and hurt people. The Boston Massacre was taught in history class. In the future we’ll see our kids talking about this, and it feels cool to watch history happen.

— Connor Tinsley, 8th grade

EILEEN FLETCHER

Hello. My name is Eileen Fletcher and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol and the riots, i feel like us young people need to be helping out by being peaceful and telling others to stop this craziness now because what they are doing is not going to fix anything!!

— Eileen Fletcher, 8th grade

BRENNA BENTLEY

Hello. My name is Brenna Bentley and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the current riots, I feel super shocked! People, whether Trump-supporters or Non-Trump supporters, are going crazy! With all of this COVID-19 stuff going on, the antidotes being distributed, non-trustworthy media; this country is falling apart. This started as a peaceful protest, but quickly became a riot because Trump-supporters were resisting the police. It may have been race-run, but there were all types of races at the rally. Regardless, it was a really scary thing, and I don’t like it.

— Brenna Bentley, 8th grade

MIRIAM ARGENAL

Hello. My name is Miriam Argenal and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots in the capitol, I feel shocked. Under no circumstances is this acceptable. People got hurt and it could’ve gotten a lot worse. I can only hope that things will change.

— Miriam Argenal, 8th grade

— Reagan Doran, 8th grade

Ailany Rivera

Hello. My name is Ailany Rivera and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about a LOT of trump supporters storming the Capitol, I feel extremely disappointed and nervous. I am disappointed because there were so many other ways to handle this.  I understand that we have the right to protest. But not like this. This caused violence and death, and sadness and pain. I am also nervous because this shows what people are willing to do to fight for what they believe in, and that scares me.

— Ailany Rivera, 8th grade

Joshua Murphy

Hello. My name is Joshua Murphy and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots I feel that there should be change if so many people have a problem with what happened what’s happening then we should fix it, on the first days of election or soon after trump was elected they wanted to impeach him, but when so many people don’t want a old man sniffing their kids to be president nobody acts like they wanna impeach him, there’s a problem the people have addressed it we need to make a solution before matters get worse.

— Joshua Murphy, 8th grade

Jared Nelson

Hello. My name is Jared Nelson and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what’s happening in the Capitol, I feel scared that this is where we are heading.

— Jared Nelson, 8th grade

Kaelyn Baughman

Hello. My name is Kaelyn Baughman and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters raiding the Capitol building in Washington D.C., I feel embarrassed and discouraged because this isn’t what we want the rest of the world to see America as. I feel as though there should have been tighter security on the Capitol, and the police should’ve done more to stop the situation. In my opinion, it was very unprofessional of Trump to encourage the behavior that occured yesterday. If people actually wanted to make sure that Trump won the election, they could have handled it in a much mature, civilized manner. This isn’t the best way we could’ve started the year.

— Kaelyn Baughman, 8th Grade

Madeline Langrehr

Hello. My name is Madeline Langrehr and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the “protest” (It wasn’t a protest, it was practically a terrorist attack), I feel disgusted and scared. I am positive that if it was a black lives matter protest(which almost all were peaceful by the way, there may have been riots but it was more peace) then everyone would have been shot with rubber bullets, stomped on, tear gassed, arrested, shoved and manhandled, treated like trash, even killed. But they just let them stomp through the nation’s Capitol and destroyed everything. They even put a black cop inside alone and let the terrorists chase after him. The entire thing was ridiculous. It was incredibly biased towards the terrorists. I am honestly disgusted.

— Madeline Langrehr, 8th grade

Louis Hainaj

Hello. My name is Louis Hainaj  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the attack on the capitol, I feel annoyed.

JARED SANCHEZ

Hello. My name is Jared Sanchez and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about how congress certifies Biden’s win, I feel better knowing that trump isn’t the president or anything because of last morning’s “speech”in front of a lot of people , because with that he just kept bringing up the same topic on how “the majority of the votes are by computers” and “he faked his votes.”

— Jared Sanchez, 8h grade

NATALIE BROWN

Hello. My name is Natalie Brown and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol storming, I feel confused and a bit scared. So many things have been happening like the possible election fraud and COVID. I feel like easily my life could be in danger next and I don’t know why people can’t say “Oh well, Biden won the election,” so people could carry on with their lives. So far, nobody had been killed, and the police shot the lady for unknown reason. The march was supported by President Trump until he realized the harm. Because people were shooting and screaming, they’re disobeying the constitution by not peacefully protesting, instead using guns and pepper sprays. The media is ignoring, dumbing down or lying about what’s going on (at any time) so people don’t even know what’s going on.

— Natalie Brown, 7th grade

TORRIN COTTMAN

Hello. My name is Torrin Cottman and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the State Capitol riot, I felt scared and angry at the same time. This was not the new year we were expecting it to be but, I still hope that everything will get sorted out.

Never give up hope!

–Torrin Cottman, 7th grade

JACK JUDY

Hello. My name is Jack and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the capitol building being stormed, I feel very confused and mad about what happened at the capitol building yesterday. Personally I do not have a political view or side that I am on, but this was definitely too far. Four people died in the chaos from this pointless attack. From what I have seen, this accomplished nothing for the American people and only divided us even further. I may not know much about politics, but even I know this was pointless and did not accomplish anything.

–Jack Judy, 7th grade

SYDNEE DAVIS

Hello. My name is Sydnee Davis and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about Trump supporters storming into the capitol , I felt very shocked and mad at how our president dealt with the whole situation and the fact that his vice president had to come out and apologized on Trump’s behath. This is all crazy and out of control and honestly it makes me kind of sad that this is the world we live in and that it is the world we will all have to inhearte and fix all these problems. This shouldn’t have to be the world we have to take over, but it is and we just have to try and make it better.

— Sydnee Davis, 8th grade

ISABEL MENDOZA

Hello! My name is Isabel Mendoza and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riot at the U.S Capitol, I feel disgusted and horrified by what happened. It was so disrespectful, insulting, unmannerly and uncivil to attack the U.S Capitol out of anger and rage. Rioters broke windows, climbed walls, went into restricted areas, and damaged the capitol building while workers were hiding, scared, and fearful for their lives. This is ridiculous and unbelievable for Trump supporters (who are adults and knew what they were doing) to attack and storm the Capitol building and act superior and powerful. I fear for the future of our nation deeply, unfortunately.

Isabel Mendoza , 7th grade

MYRA KUNZ

Hello. My name is Myra Kunz and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol, I feel that it’s very scary that a woman got shot for voicing her opinion about how she supports Trump. It is disrespectful that they broke into the Capitol. I feel our country is falling apart.

— Myra Kunz, 8th grade

ALEELA TERELL

Hello. My name is Aleela Terrell and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the Capitol, I feel mad because the Trump supporters broke into the Capitol and they didn’t make a big deal as the BLM protests. It’s not okay that this is happening. They should know what happened was wrong and that the elections are over now and that’s it. It was Trump’s fault because he made this country worse.

— Aleela Terrell, 8th grade

JORDANN NESKORA

Hello. My name is Jordann Neskora and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the Capitol, I feel disgusted about the difference in how the breach of the Capitol and the Black Lives Matters Protest. The fact that only a couple of people died and at most of the protest thousands of people were hurt.

— Jordann Neskora, 7th grade

TAYLOR DUNCAN

Hello. My name is Taylor Duncan and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots at the Capitol, I feel saddened that Americans are doing this. I’m scared that going forward this could happen again. It seems crazy to me that people would even think about doing something like this. It is crazy that this is actually happening and that this hasn’t happened for so long and that people who know better than to go to the capitol building and break in. Normally if one person tried to break in they would be killed, some very important people were there and they were at risk from citizens.

— Taylor Duncan, 7th grade

MYA ROSE

Hello. My name is Mya Rose and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the attack on the capitol building, I personally feel upset about the attack. When Trump lost, his supporters thought attacking the capitol building would change that. The fact that some of his supporters were loaded makes me more upset plus now if people want something to change. They have peaceful protests like SOME Black Lives Matter protests and most of the rioters that attacked the capitol building were grown adults and as a kid I can see some kid in the world look up to that and think that’s okay.  Adults have the responsibility to be role models for the future generation, yet we look up to our role models and see them choosing violence. This really upsets me!

Mya Rose, 7th grade

ANALYSSE SOTOMAYOR

Hello. My name is Analysse Sotomayor and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the Capitol, I feel kinda mad/scared because it was very unnecessary, I mean not a lot of people were wearing masks and they broke into the Capitol. It wasn’t even handled how the BLM PEACEFUL protests were handled, and I think that’s very unfair. The crazy part is they’re all white–not to be racist, but I think that’s racist.

— Analysse Sotomayor, 7th grade

GIOVANNI ANDRADE

Hello. My name is Giovanni Andrade and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about how the people were protesting at the capitol, I feel upset and mad because people of our country should not disrespect our capitol. This is not good for our country. We all should live peacefully in the United States and this is very bad and this all needs to stop.

— Giovanni Andrade, 8th grade

CAMILA LLERA

Hello. My name is Camila Llera and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the whole riot at the Capitol, I feel mad.

— Camila Llera, 8th grade

KINLEY MASON

Hello. My name is Kinley Mason and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Riot I feel disappointed, mostly because people are rioting like wild animals. It is the complete opposite of peaceful. This also has an impact on the racial problems we’re already having. You can do a peaceful protest for racial justice and get arrested, but riot the capitol and nothing?

–Kinley Mason, 7th grade

RYLEE SPREEMAN

Hello. My name is Rylee Spreeman and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about politics and the riot, I don’t care. We are still children and when I joined journalism, I thought we were just doing things for the school like the newspaper, not whatever they are trying to make me listen to. I didn’t want to hear this but they showed it anyway. I do not care. If you do, then you do you, but I just wanted to know what’s happening at school. Before I just was never knowing, but this is more confusing and I don’t want to listen to it .

— Rylee Spreeman, 7th grade

KAITLYN FRANCOIS

Hello. My name is Kaitlyn Francois and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riot at the capitol, I feel that America NEEDS to change! People should never be allowed to do this, even if they feel that it isn’t fair that Trump is leaving the white house. They should never do anything like that. It’s so sad that the congress people felt that they needed to take cover from the rioters. It makes no sense. The police should’ve done something more than just “blocked” them. They needed to have more of them protecting the place and not let them go on the walls. They BROKE the windows and caused so much damage mentaly and physically. It’s disturbing how those people were willing to do those things and be sure that they’d be fine after. It’s disturbing how some of those people probably went home proud. It’s disturbing to hear that Trump supporters are so bad that the rest of their party can’t stand to stand with them and I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe this is how they want to start 2021 after all that has happened already. Actually yes I do believe it….because Trump supporters are the ones who said Corona isn’t real they are the ones who refused to wear masks and made a huge deal about it Trump is the one who wanted to stop counting the votes because he was scared to lose so i believe that they would do something so irrational that affects the whole country so deeply because they have done it before no president has been on the news more than Trump from the first day he was officially president he was making decisions that made the United States as a whole look like we were idiots there are people around the world making fun of our country because of the unqualified people that are running it.

— Kaitlyn Francois, 8th grade

Edmilleo Conteras

Hello. My name is Edmilleo and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the trump riot I feel disgusted and embarrassed that I live here. Grown men and women acting in childish ways–this is not okaay. And with all of this violence, someone has COVID and it’s gonna spread, I am…wow. This is horrific and nasty! I  am so tired of people. America is not home anymore. This is not a safe place for anyone– especially non-Trump supporters.

–Edmilleo Contreras, 8th grader

AIDEN HINOJOSA

Hello. My name is Aiden  Hinojosa and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots in Washington DC, I feel that this is very embarrassing to the U.S. Other countries probably don’t want to do anything with the U.S.

Right now, we look bad because of what happened 1/6/2021. It’s crazy to think that people  think they’re in the right when they were rioting where the greatest world leaders were standing. I also feel President Donald Trump is in the wrong as well. That morning of the day the riots began, he said that we are all going to the capitol and he would go with them. Well his supporters listened, but he did not go with them. I don’t know why he would ever say that, but he did and later,  he said he didn’t know what was about to happen. When he said that at the rally, he probably thought, “I’ll be fine. I’ll be safe. I won’t get hurt,” but it wasn’t we’ll be safe, we’ll be fine, we won’t get hurt. He didn’t get hurt, but other people did. Think about how the people that got hurt feel towards the president.

–Aiden  Hinojosa, 7th grader

Period 6

JADE SMITH

Hello. My name is Jade Smith and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news, I feel that everything that happened was people over-exaggerating. It was very unnecessary because overall whoever is in the office or not you can’t do anything so you’re going to have to deal with it at the end of the day. I still don’t understand why people were destroying things just to protest. It could’ve been peaceful but people tend to go overboard.

Jade Smith, 8th grade

DARBY PERDUE

Hello. My name is Darby Perdue and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about what had happened in the U.S. Capitol yesterday, I felt very confused and I just don’t understand why. Everything looked so scary and crazy. The most crazy thing I think was whenever the rioters broke into the Capitol and that there was not enough law enforcement to contain the people. Overall the whole situation was horrifying.

— Darby Perdue, 8th grade

EMMA SALINAS

Hello. My name is Emma Salinas and I am a 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the things that happened yesterday in America, I feel disgusted and embarrassed to be an American citizen. This  was not a protest, this was a riot. I’m embarrassed to say people risk their lives to fight just for people to return the favor like this.

— Emma Salinas,8th grade

JOSSLYN CANTU

Hello. My name is Josslyn Cantu and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol, I feel like this is really embarrassing. We had people from other countries tell the President what to do, and at first all he did was tweet. All he did was say to stay safe and instead he said they were going to march to the Capitol. He was getting everyone hyped up, and that encouraged them to do something very illegal. The President is making his supporters believe he won when he didn’t win–he lost.

— Josslyn Cantu, 8th grade

JESCILLA GODINES

Hello. My name is Jescilla Godines and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol, I feel disgusted that Trump and his supporters were so immature about not winning the election. They have counted the votes TWO times and they still refuse to accept the fact that Biden won. It makes me mad as well because if they were people of color PROTESTING. Not having a riot like the trump supports. But if they were colored, protesting about BLM (Black Lives Matter), they would have been shot or hurt by the police. But some police did absolutely nothing. Some even just took photos like it was normal. All of them should be fired for not stopping this. It’s so sad to me that people are this immature and that Trump wanted the violence.

— Jescilla Godines, 7th grade

KIERSTEN MILBURN

Hello . My name is KJ Miburn and I am an 8th grader at dobie junior high. I feel that what they did was very ignorant and selfish. There were people scared because they were breaking into the Capitol. I don’t like that Trump supporters are doing this because it’s clearly not right and they need to stop !!!

— Kiersten Milburn, 8th grade

ASHLEY DOUGHERTY

Hello. My name is Ashley Dougherty  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what is going on in the world, I feel that the people that are storming into the Capitol are wrong. The Trump supporters that were all saying  “blue lives matter” during the Black Lives Matter protests are now the people breaking into the Capitol and disrespecting the police officers.

— Ashley Dougherty, 8th grader

MICHAILE TODD

Hello. My name is Michaile Todd and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what’s going on at the Capitol, I feel disappointed about what’s going on in the world. This is very mind-blowing how people are reacting to something that cannot change at all. The president is okay with all that is going on; he’s also antagonizing the whole situation.

— Michaile Todd, 8th grade

DEVIN WALKER

Hello. My name is Devin Walker and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riot in the capitol, I feel scared that it could happen again and again.

— Devin Walker, 7th grade

ALISON BOENING

Hello. My name is Alison, and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today, as I read and listen to the news about the attacks on the US Capitol, I feel many afflicting emotions. I feel deeply troubled and sad about the ransack of the Capitol. The building has years of history, and it didn’t deserve the desecration it received. It was extremely disrespectful to our country, and I think the Trump supporters should have stayed outside to protest, instead of breaking in. I’m also very scared for the future of our country and my personal safety. The last time we had such bitter partisanship in our country, civil war broke out. Thousands of people were killed. I’m terrified that we will have another war and more people will die. I’m also very angry at our current president, President Trump. He should have accepted that he lost, and let Joe Biden take office. The way he handled the situation was immature and shameful. I am VERY embarrassed for him. And, by the way, this is written by a more conservatively minded individual (so I tend to agree more with Republican opinions than Democrat opinions). Finally, I feel proud of Vice President Pence and the senators and representatives that put their lives in danger to continue their constitutional work of counting the electoral votes. All in all, I am feeling lots of emotions, and it felt great to ramble about them here.

— Alison Boening, 8th grade

SAVANNAH MINJAREZ

Hello. My name is Savannah and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about how Trump supporters stormed into the US capitol building, I feel disappointed in our leader for allowing this to happen and encouraging it in the first place. I feel like the people that did so are ignorant and dumb as well with police it’s sad to see their actions throughout the raid. I can’t help but feel upset at the fact that if it were any People of Color, they would have been shot and killed without hesitation. It’s sad that other kids don’t take this seriously.

–Savannah Minjarez, 8th grade

BLAKE FERENCAK

Hello. My name is Blake Ferencak and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the protest at the Capitol, it is crazy. I feel annoyed and embarrassed about our country.

—  Blake Ferencak, 8th grader

SAMANTHA LONGBINE

Hello. My name is Samantha Longbine and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Trump supporters rioting in the U.S Capitol, I feel disappointed in my country because what they did was really wrong. The fact that our president supported it is disgusting. All the reporters there were very brave for telling us what happened. It still doesn’t make it right that those people weren’t hurt more unlike what happened in the BLM.

— Samantha Longbine, 8th grade

BROOKLYN BAILEY

Hello. My name is Brooklyn Bailey and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what is happening in our government I feel disappointed that Americans can be so ignorant. I also feel like Trump should just move on and accept the fact that he lost. I watched all of it on my phone for the rest of the day so I could have my opinion on it live and so I could see the truth before they mixed it around.

— Brooklyn Bailey, 8th grade

GREGORY STEVENS

Hello. My name is Gregory Stevens and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Trump Riot, I feel disappointed. After me fully trusting Trump, it’s sad to see this happen when he was getting onto something. I’m probably not going to talk about this much because talking about politics makes me uncomfortable because I always get into fights about it but all I’m feeling now is just disappointment in what everything has turned into.

— Gregory Stevens, 8th grade

BRYANNA AVILA

Hello. My name is Bryanna Avila  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the chaos that happened in the White house, I feel as though people are slowly starting to lose themselves. People now are acting so ridiculous and need to actually think about whats happening cause its pretty stupid to think and see a bunch of idiots creating such a crazy protest. I also hate the fact that some people are being so racist towards not only blacks but other races as well. I don’t get it because it’s not like they’re doing anything wrong. Don’t hurt or shame others just because they look a certain way.  In my opinion, I don’t really care who leads, but now that I see how people are acting towards the elections, I’m pretty disappointed in the adults who were a part of that. This is embarrassing  to see others make fools of themselves. What point are they trying to prove? Also I think Trump should just stop, because I don’t really see what good he has done to make the world a better place.

— Bryanna Avila, 8th grade

AALIYAH LIMON

Hello. My name is Aaliyah Limon and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riot in the capitol, I feel surprised and very disappointed. Nobody should be doing things like this and it is absolutely insane and inhumane.

— Aaliyah Limon, 8th grade

ARIE MILLER

Hello. My name is Arie and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the break in at the Capitol, I feel personally disappointed. The people who broke in were not killed or harmed but if they were African American, they would’ve been killed. I’m disappointed because lots of people still think that white privilege isn’t a thing but it is and it shows. I don’t wish to offend anyone. I just wish to spread awareness and show that these things still happen.

–Arie Miller, 8th grade

BRISABELLA GARCIA

Hello. My name is Brisabella Garcia and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the breaking news at the Capitol, I feel that the election was stolen from us, but it’s whatever…because the government isn’t going to do anything about it. I’m still going to support Donald J. Trump Make America Great Again. God bless America. I will pray that Biden can change his ways and just hope for the best.

–Brisabella Garcia, 8th grade

Austin Hermanowicz

Hello, my name is Austin Hermanowicz, and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the mob breaching the Capitol, I feel

pretty disappointed at the fact that they broke in for something as petty as a vote count. For a little over 200 years the Capitol hasn’t been breached, but for business as usual, it got stormed. It even got to the point where senators had to hide under their seats because gunfire was heard. Peoples’ lives were at risk because of allegations of voter fraud. It’s a real shame none of the spoils over politics have gone for the better since November, and a really bad way to start off this year– by far.

— Austin Hermanowicz, 7th grade

Mia de la Cruz

Hello. My name is Mia de la Cruz and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about people breaking into the capitol, I feel disappointed in everyone who participated in this. They’re not wearing any masks and breaking into the Capitol isn’t the right way to show you didn’t like the election results.

— Mia de la Cruz, 8th grade

Lindalba Navarro Moraga

Hello. My name is Lindalba  and I am an  8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about Trump supporters breaking into the capitol, I feel disappointed in the fact that they didn’t think straight. What they did was unnecessary and against the law. I feel it wasn’t the right thing to do, since no one should be above the law. I hope that in the future people as a whole will be less irrational. What happened, happened. No one can really change that. The best thing would be to move on and accept that President Trump will no longer be in office. There are other ways of achieving change without breaking the law or harming others. I feel some people blindly ignore common sense and tend to make irrational decisions out of emotion, but that doesn’t excuse the type of behavior that was showcased in the capital. Some people need to stop being hypocrites, because in all reality that’s what we’ve become. A country that’s supposed to be united and working together is divided into two groups with both sides tearing each other apart. This might have just been one event, but it’s only beginning to be part of the bigger picture. I’m afraid that if we Americans can’t learn to compromise or even co-exist, then that’s where The United States of America will cease to be America, whether it be through civil war or a much more serious divide than just joining a political party.

CADENCE BROWN

Hello. My name is Cadence and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened yesterday, I feel unsettled about it. I don’t know why this happened. I think a lot of suspicious stuff happened like the police not being prepared and the way they let all the people go in. I believe that this had to be some sort of setup, but that is just what I think. I don’t agree with what they did and I think it was very wrong. BLM has been doing this for almost a year and killed about 30 people injured many more and done $8 billion dollars in damage and people acted like it was a normal everyday thing. I don’t agree with what BLM did, and I don’t agree with what the people that were not peaceful at the Capitol did.

–Cadence Brown, 7th grade

DAISY HILLYER

Hello. My name is Daisy Hillyer and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened yesterday, I feel weird about it because everyone’s attacking others. No  one knows if these people want our economy to be like that or if they just do it because they listen to what others say.

— Daisy Hillyer, 7th grade

ISABEL CUADRADO-JEFFRIES

Hello, my name is Isabel Cuadrado-Jeffries and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about what happened yesterday, I feel upset that this happened. I think this is weird. I feel that we are not being the best we can be with all the riots and protests. They could have had a peaceful protest; they didn’t have to break into the capitol to steal and vandalize things. No one had to die.

— Isabel Cuadrado-Jeffries 7th grader

BRYLEIGH SNELLGROVE

Hello. My name is Bryleigh Snellgrove and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listened to the news about the news today, I feel disappointed in our country because we should work together and not be so separated and violent. The huge mob that came by was not a protest, that was a riot, people have been killed and injured. America should be working together, yet we show no respect to our police.

— Bryleigh Snellgrove, 7th grade

KESHAUN JONES

Hello. My name is Keshaun Jones and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riot, I feel disappointed.  People should have never done that, they did that for no reason. They got nowhere doing that.

— Keshaun Jones, 8th grade

MASYN CARAMELLO

Hello. My name is Masyn Caramello and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol break-in, I feel ashamed of our country and hopeful that peace will follow this act of violence. I don’t understand what they were trying to accomplish by breaking into the Capitol building. I don’t believe that act of violence helped solve anything. I hope in the future, the citizens of our country can accept their losses peacefully and we can avoid dangerous and scary situations like this.

–Masyn Caramello, 8th grade

CONSTANCE GONZALES

Hello. My name is Constance and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about things that are going on in the Capitol riot, I feel so ashamed of our country. I feel embarrassed for Trump supporters. It’s just so sad how some cops treat things like with the BLM act and the immigration stuff. The people at the Trump riot had it easy and that is disgusting. It really does upset me and irritate me.   .

— Constance Gonzales, 8th grade

Brett Doumit

Hello. My name is Brett Doumit and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about riot on the Capitol, I feel absolutely dumbfounded at the fact that people were stupid enough to think that was a good idea. I mean good Lord, man. Christ.

— Brett Doumit, 8th grade

ADIN MEREDITH

Hello. My name is Adin Meredith and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and  listened to the news about what happened to the white house yesterday, I feel scared. I want to get involved in this stuff.

MARCUS WRIGHT

Hello. My name is Marcus Wright and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and  listened to the news about what happened to the white house yesterday, I feel I don’t really care because I don’t want to get involved in this stuff.  I want to stay a teen and not get involved in the country stuff. In my opinion, that is for the grown ups.

— Marcus Wright, 8th grade

KALEB SANDOVAL

Hello. My name is Kaleb and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol, I feel angry. Nothing should ever get this bad in America. They are doing things so wrong and all the Trump supporters are treating Trump as if he is a God. Biden won and they can’t accept the fact he won. If  they really were a true supporter of America who had pride for their country, they wouldn’t have stormed the Capitol. It’s so immature what it has come to. I’m 14 and I’m more mature than all those people.

— Kaleb Sandoval, 8th grade

JACOB SHIVER

Hello. My name is Jacob Shiver and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the riots at Capitol Hill, I feel ashamed of everything that has happened. I feel we could’ve just protested peacefully outside and inside the U.S Capitol. No one had to die, and no one had to disrespect history. I just hope this doesn’t give a bad rep for trump supporters and Republicans. I feel that Trump himself is not a good person, but for what he did for our country was great. I feel that his advisors were amazing for our country, and I just wish I never will have to feel a loss of hope for our country.

— Jacob Shiver, 8th grader

ALIYAH MACIEL

Hello. My name is Aliyah Maciel  and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the Capitol being raided, I feel like it’s very unnecessary and stupid. What makes them think doing that is still gonna make Trump be in office? Trump and his little supporters and also Biden need to just move on with their lives because they all are gonna have different opinions and are just gonna have to deal with it. They are grown folks that need to just deal with life. Their opinion really isn’t going to change anything. Until death calls my name, I feel that voting will never happen and I would never vote in my life because it is the stupidest thing. Voting really does not matter at this point because Trump is gonna find his way back to get at everyone and Biden and Trump from my opinion are horrible humans.

— Aliyah Maciel, 8th grade

BRAELYN THORNTON

Hello. My name is Braelyn Thornton and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened yesterday, I feel ashamed for what people think our country is from the events of yesterday. What people saw wasn’t what our Founding Fathers could have imagined. It’s not what I could have imagined. With social media, photos and videos from inside the capitol have caught the eye of so many. Those people were scared. They didn’t know if they were going to be hurt, or even see their family again. I feel like the people that have caused fear and violence yesterday should think about what they have done. What did you change? The votes are in. It’s done. All you did was scare many people.

— Braelyn Thornton, 8th grade

KYDEN WILEY

Hello. My name is Kyden Wiley and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about what happened at the Capitol yesterday, I feel sad and disgusted about this situation and why it happened. What I saw made me think that how our society changed because of another President and the things that people do just because of that. It makes me just want to go to another country because of this and when I think about it police officers did not even do anything about it. That just tells you about the discrimination we still have in this country because if that was colored protesters it would not even take a second before shots were fired. I just want our people to change and to not have a riot because of a president and his/hers votes, and to where the president does stop the problem right away.

— Kyden Wiley, 8th grade

ANGELINA HOWELL

Hello. My name is Angelina Howell and I am an 8th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about The Capital riot that took place yesterday, I feel angry and disappointed in the people who participated in it. Not only that but scared of what will happen in the near future. I know people should be entitled to their own opinions and beliefs and that not all Trump supporters are like this, but for those people who have taken it too far, that is no excuse.

— Angelina Howell, 8th grade

CAILYN DUKES

Hello. My name is Cailyn Dukes and I am a 7th grader at J. Frank Dobie Jr. High School. Today as I read and listen to the news about the protest at the capitol, I feel tired and annoyed. I believe that it was not right of them to break into the capitol. There are people in my family who are Republicans. The people who broke into the Capitol shouldn’t be called Republicans. They are angry people who just crave violence. There were peaceful Republicans and Trump supporters there that did not mean any harm and wanted to do a peaceful protest.

— Cailyn Dukes, 7th grade
