Free agent and former Chicago Bulls player Pau Gasol secured a $30 million contract with the Spurs.

Spurs fans are really happy, but some are complaining because the Bulls traded Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose went to the Knicks and the Bulls got Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade.

The reason why Spurs fans are happy about this is because Pau Gasol is a good player and after Tim Duncan retired he said that he will be the one who will do the tip off. Usually Tim will start the tip off, but he is no longer with the Spurs. Also it was a necessary for the Spurs to pursue Gasol after missing out on Kevin Durant’s trade to the Golden State Warriors.

The Spurs have transitioned to Kawhi Leonard emerging as the new cornerstone, but if Duncan doesn’t does call it a career then Gasol’s presence is important. This year the Spurs and other NBA teams are getting new players are getting some new players such as Kevin Durant moving to the Golden State Warriors. Gasol had emerged as the target of a lucrative free-agency binding war with the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Toronto Raptors.

At the age 35, Gasol continued to produce in a Chicago uniform last season despite the team’s troubles. Longtime starting center Joakim Noah struggled with a transition to a bench role and the Bull’s ended up missing the playoffs for the first time in years. Gasol, meanwhile, started 72 games and and  his sixth career an All-Star Game.

While he’ll be 36 years old at the start of next season, the past years have shown that Gasol still has more in the tank in a non-starring role. He became the 36th player to reach 10,000 points and 10,000 rebounds last season, and doesn’t seem quite done yet. So there’s no doubt about Gasol’s accolades or even his recent performance on the court.
