The object of the game is simple, get the ball into the goal using any body part except your hands and arms. The referee starts the ball in the middle of the field. The players start the ball off by passing it to a teammate and trying to shoot the ball into the goal. Getting it there takes skill, that’s what you obtain with practice.

According to, soccer has a number of health benefits, one of which being increased cognitive brain function.  Soccer helps increase skills in concentration, persistence and self-discipline because it is a fast-paced game that requires quick decisions on the field.

Many of the soccer players have been playing since they were little. “I’ve been playing since I was 5 years old,” said Felicia Cortezar, 7th Grader. “I’ve been playing for 9 years,” said Shelby Paniagua, 7th grader.

The 2016-2017 school year is the first year that the SCUCISD Jr. High Schools are participating in soccer. “I feel like we’re kind of legends because we’re the first girls soccer team at Dobie,” said Kimberly Guajardo, 7th grader. The school holds soccer practice everyday after school, and their first official game will be held against Canyon Middle School on Thursday January 21st at 4:30pm.
