Based on information from https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-animal-testing: In US labs alone there are over 100 million animals that are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused a year. However, cosmetic companies are not the only ones who use animals for their own gain. Animals are also tested for drugs, food, and even for classroom experiments (dissecting). Companies such as Avon, Covergirl, Johnson & Johnson, and a lot more are all guilty of testing on fragile animals who are not able to speak for themselves. The tests they do on their animals are awful and should be outlawed immediately.
Some tests they do on animals are to see for any skin or irritation. One process when it comes to testing for eye and skin irritation is rubbing chemicals on their shaved skin and dripping it into their eyes. After the tests are over the animals are not given any form of pain relief. That is insensitive and unfair.
Not only are the tests cruel, but their are almost always in vain. According to https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/why-we-do-it/arguments-against-animal-testing, the test that are done to animals do not reflect the complexity of some human conditions, such as HIV and the major kinds of heart diseases. Therefore, animal testing is not effective and does more harm than good.
According to http://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/why-do-companies-continue-to-test-products-on-animals/ companies test on animals to protect themselves for when they are being sued from injured consumers. That is the most selfish reason for hurting these innocent animals. Animals are not given nearly the amount of protection as they should have. They are our best friends who aren’t even treated as if they were us.
There are however organizations who do care about the well being of our furry friends. Organizations such as Animal Liberation Front (ALF) or Cruelty Free International (CFI). Others are listed on websites such as, https://speakingofresearch.com/extremism-undone/animal-rights-activists-organizations/.
