February 22, 2017
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th every year and is commonly known as the “Day of Love”. Dating back to the third century, it is named after Saint Valentine who was a roman saint. He sent letters to his lover even though it was forbidden. This showed how much he cared and loved her, it then created Valentine’s Day.
“For Valentine’s Day, I got stuffed animals, sweethearts, and chocolates,” says Briahnah Fischer, 8th grader at Dobie Junior High. Today, Valentine’s Day is commonly known for giving gifts and showing your love for another. Most people receive roses, chocolates and stuffed animals. 51% of people buy red roses for this holiday, and this year $1.9 billion dollars were spent on flowers.
Chocolate covered strawberries and a box of chocolates are the most bought candies for Valentine’s Day, and are the most common things that people get. They are also what most people ask for and expect to receive on Valentine’s Day. “I got a lot of chocolate on Valentines Day,” said Dara Hamilton, 8th grader at Dobie Jr High.
