VIDEO: Coach Lanoue gets pie-in-the-face
NJHS food drive is a success
September 29, 2017
What seemed like the entire student body at Dobie Jr. High cheered and crammed in the cafeteria before school to watch Coach Lanoue get two pies in his face. It was their “reward” for a successful food drive held by Dobie’s National Junior Honor Society.
The canned and non-perishable food drive, held in September, was for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Those students who donated the food items chose boxes with with names of teachers and coaches. The one who had the most food items, Coach Lanoue, received a pie in the face just before the first bell rang on September 29 in the cafeteria. Coach Lanoue was a good sport saying he had “fun” and it was for a “good cause.”
Mr. Patel, NJHS sponsor, said the whole idea was the idea of 8th grade NJHS member Selah Flores. “She took the initiative,” said Patel, adding that it was the first time he has had a student member come up with the service project idea so early in the school year. “It was all her idea.”
A lot of NJHS members were supportive of Flores’ idea and helped with the project. Many of them helped to get the word out and collect donations on stage during lunches. NJHS president Brenna Cockerill managed the project, keeping daily count and making daily announcements.
Elijah Hugle, Dobie 8th grader and NJHS member, said he wanted to participate. “I enjoy helping people,” said Hugle.
