Coach Morrical talking to Dobie eighth-grade doubles players Courtney Wiegel and Oliver Donoho at the following match.
Due to rain and lightning, the black team’s tennis match against Kirby was cancelled for the day at the Steele tennis courts, 20 minutes in. A few players were able to start. There was a possibility that rain would start, but nonetheless, the team played until one of the Steele staff yelled for everyone to get off the courts. “I got confused and scared when he yelled to get off the courts,” seventh-grader Zoe Stewart said, “I was winning too,” Stewart later said. “I told the parents that if it started to rain, they could just sign them out and head home,” Coach Morrical said. Leaving most of the team devastated, they headed home, missing a game for the season.
